11 May 2004 10:26 COM: Pakistan embassies be made effective to promote exports and investment: FPCCI KARACHI, May 11 PPI: Vice President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Haroon Rashid
has underlined the need for making Pakistani embassies an effective vehicle for promotion of trade, exports and
investment for Pakistan. He was addressing a delegation of 17 federal government officers who have been posted as
Commercial Officers in Pakistan's embassies abroad, visited FPCCI and held orientation meeting with the FPCCI vice
president and senior members of the business community. He said: "Our commercial officers abroad can help the
Pakistani businessmen by advising them on the economic and trade prospects in their country. He called upon the
commercial officers to work hard for projecting the image of Pakistan as a safe destination for foreign investment and
supplier of quality goods and services. Mr. Rashid briefed the commercial officers about the organizational structure
and activities of the FPCCI and said it had been playing a pivotal role to promote country's trade through holding
exhibitions, taking trade delegation and holding meetings abroad with foreign trade delegations visiting Pakistan and
providing relevant research and trade facilitation information to the business sector and government departments. The
visited government officials to FPCCI have been posted to New York, Los Angeles, Moscow, Montreal, Hong Kong, Geneva,
Jeddah, Kuala Lumpur, Sao Paulo, Mexico, Johannesburg, Dhaka, Warsaw and Almaty. Tariq Shafi Chak, managing director,
Punjab Small Industries Corporation who has been posted as Consul General in Hong Kong assured the business community
that they would do their utmost to provide expected facilitation to Pakistan's trade and industry to boost the
export and attract the foreign investment.
