11 May 2004 04:19 Russian statistics service reports on trade in Jan-March 2004 Moscow, 11 May: Russia's foreign trade surplus amounted to 21.8bn US dollars in January-March, up from 19.2bn
dollars in the same period last year, according to data released by the federal state statistics service on Tuesday [11
May].
Exports rose 19.2 per cent on the year in January-March to 36.6bn dollars, while imports came to 14.7bn dollars,
rising 28.5 per cent on the year.
Exports to non-CIS countries amounted to 30.8bn dollars, up 17.2 per cent on the year, while exports to CIS countries
totalled 5.8bn dollars, up 31.9 per cent.
Russia's imports from non-CIS countries stood at 11.3bn dollars, up 27.8 per cent, while imports from CIS
countries were at 3.4bn dollars, up 31.0 per cent.
Russia's total foreign trade turnover in January-March stood at 51.3bn dollars, posting a 21.8 per cent increase
on the year.
Russia's foreign trade turnover with non-CIS countries rose 19.8 per cent on the year to 42.1bn dollars and
turnover with CIS countries increased 31.5 per cent on the year to 9.2bn dollars.
The trade turnover with EU countries was at 18.7bn dollars, which accounted for 36.5 per cent of Russia's total
foreign trade turnover, down from 37.4 per cent in the same period last year.
Russia's major trading partners are Germany, with turnover of 4.9bn dollars in January-March, up 17.1 per cent
on the year; China, with 3.3bn dollars, up 35.8 per cent; and the Netherlands, with 3.3bn dollars, up 47.7 per cent.
