07 May 2004 10:32 Rebel official off to Brussels to discuss situation in Chechnya - web site 6 May: Akhmed Zakayev, deputy prime minister of the Chechen government and special representative of the president of
the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria [CRI], arrived in Brussels on 6 May to attend a conference held by the European
Parliament's Green faction. The conference's title also reflects the problems chosen for the discussion. It
was entitled "The role of the European community in the resolution of conflicts: Chechnya-Russia and
Palestine-Israel."
Zakayev arrived for the conference, which is being held at (?New Leven) University at the invitation of Greens
parliamentary group chief Daniel Cohn-Bendit. Zakayev is expected to meet on the same day the chairman of the joint
delegation of the European Parliament and Russia, Bart Stas, to discuss the situation in Chechnya.
