03 May 2004 20:48 Yukos takeover will harm Russia`s investment climate, says business leader A possible change of ownership at the Yukos oil company will have very negative consequences for the investment
climate in Russia. The vice-president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Igor Yurgens, expressed
this view in an interview with our radio station. He believes that in spite of whatever difficulties there might be with
judicial proceedings, property rights must be protected and if assets change hands, the transfer must be
transparent.
I remind you that, in an earlier interview, market analyst Dmitriy Tsaregorodtsev had already told us that Yukos was
expected to change hands. He even speculated that ownership of the company had already changed hands. Evidence of this
might be the new structure of the Menatep group, which owns the majority of Yukos shares.
