29 April 2004 18:49 Business in Brief: New Arms Export Chief MOSCOW -- Sergei Chemezov was appointed as head of the state-owned arms dealer Rosoboronexport on Wednesday, Interfax
reported.
The appointment by President Vladimir Putin was widely expected. Chemezov replaces Andrei Belyaninov, who earlier
this month was put in charge of the Federal Service for Defense Procurement.
In his previous position as Rosoboronexport's first deputy director, Chemezov, 52, was seen as the actual boss
of the company, which has annual sales of more than $5 billion.
Both Belyaninov and Chemezov have track records in the KGB and are believed to be close associates of the
president.
Like Putin, Chemezov worked in East Germany in the 1980s, heading the local office for the experimental and
industrial association Luch.
