24 April 2004 16:22 Seoul, Moscow Agree to Boost Exchanges Seoul City on Friday signed an agreement with Moscow to promote cultural and economic exchanges between the two
cities.
Seoul Mayor Lee Myung-bak and visiting Moscow Mayor Yuri M. Luzhkov issued a joint statement at City Hall in downtown
Seoul. In the statement, the mayors promised to increase support for the trading of small and medium sized companies and
to develop diverse science and engineering programs, among others.
To increase understanding of Russian culture among citizens, Seoul designated April 23 as Moscow Day and held a
variety of cultural events.
A gala concert was held in the afternoon at Kyonghigung Palace in central Seoul. Slavic traditional dance and music
performances as well as Korean traditional percussion performances were also held.
Until today, the Seoul Museum of History in the metropolitan government building will host a photo exhibition of
architecture of Moscow, showing the architectural style of Pushkin's Museum, the Kremlin, Bolshoi Theater and many
other famous structures. Additionally, visitors will have a rare chance to see Russian animation films to be shown for
free during the two days, organizers said.
Seoul and Moscow established a sisterhood relationship in 1991. In response to the Moscow Day in Seoul, the city of
Moscow will also declare Seoul Day in September.
