Kursk Region trade unions oppose government plans to drop perks for pensioners
Kursk, 23 April: The presidium of the council of the federation of trade unions of Kursk Region today criticized the government's intention to replace privileges for long-service workers with financial compensation. The presidium called on State Duma deputies from Kursk Region "not to vote for a legislative act cancelling privileges for long-service workers and to campaign to have them extended to all the citizens of pensionable age". "In Kursk Region alone, 250,000 people, i.e. 64.9 per cent of the total number of pensioners, get pensions below the survival minimum and are living below the poverty line. A sharp increase in the price of gas, electricity, utilities and vital food stuffs has effectively nullified the indexation of pensions," the document says.
