Tomorrow! TORONTO, April 20 /CNW/ - Parkinson Society Canada will welcome leaders, supporters and stakeholders from the
Parkinson's community tomorrow for the 8th Annual World Parkinson Day. This international occasion takes place at
the Delta Chelsea Inn in Toronto and brings key members of the Canadian Parkinson's community together with
government and World Health Organization (WHO) representatives to raise awareness of Parkinson's disease. On hand
to lend their support will be The Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of State (Public Health) for Canada and The
Honourable George Smitherman, Minister of Health & Long-Term Care for Ontario. Tom Pitfield will serve as Master of
Ceremonies. His father, Senator Michael Pitfield, was diagnosed with Parkinson's in the late 1980's and is the
Honourary Chair of Parkinson Society Canada. The highlight will be the signing of the "Global Declaration of Rights
for People with Parkinson's Disease" by Barry Johnson, Chair, Parkinson Society Canada; and renowned Canadian
Parkinson's specialist, Dr. Anthony E. Lang. The global declaration will be brought to Canada by Mary Baker, Chair
of the WHO's Working Group on Parkinson's Disease. The declaration was launched in 2003 in India and will
travel around the world as a tool to raise awareness about the issues related to Parkinson's disease. Seven
countries have hosted this international Parkinson's event including United Kingdom, Argentina, Japan, Russia,
