20 April 2004 09:01 NIZHNY NOVGOROD REGION SEES BUDGET SURPLUS IN Q1 NIZHNY NOVGOROD. April 20 (Interfax-Volga) - Nizhny Novgorod region posted a budget surplus of 440 million rubles, or
10.22% of revenue, in the first quarter of 2004, the Regional Finance Ministry told Interfax.
Revenue totaled 4.3 billion rubles, or 20% of the target for the year, and spending was 3.86 billion rubles, or
18%.
Tax revenue totaled 2.62 billion rubles and non-tax revenue - 142.4 million rubles.
Profit tax amounted to 1.18 billion rubles (45% of all tax revenue), income tax totaled 889.7 million rubles (34%)
and excises were 287 million rubles (11%).
The largest spending items included 1.34 billion rubles on aid to municipal budgets, 488.6 million rubles on social
policy, and 771.2 million rubles on health and recreation facilities.
Consolidated regional budget revenue was 6.77 billion rubles in January-March 2004 and spending totaled 6.2 billion
rubles.
