Russian government plans crackdown on intellectual property piracy
Washington, 21 April: The Russian government plans to "as seriously as possible" crack down on intellectual property piracy on the Russian market, Education and Science Minister Andrey Fursenko told reporters on Wednesday [21 April], wrapping up his two-day visit to Washington. [Passage omitted] Meanwhile, Nadezhda Nazina, Russia's chief state inspector for trade and the head of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry's department for trade inspections, said in late March the share of pirated audio and video goods in Russia decreased 15-20 per cent in 2003. According to Nazina, Russia's losses from pirated intellectual and audio and video products on the Russian market are estimated at 1-4bn US dollars.
