Russia - MegaFon aims to be No 2 mobile operator
MegaFon (Russia), cellular operator backed by TeliaSonera, Nordic telecoms company, aims to become the 2nd largest mobile operator in Russia, according to CEO Sergei Soldatenkov. MegaFon is currently in 3rd place with an 18.3% market share, behind Vimpelcom with around 32%, and market leader Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) with 37%. MegaFon expects to increase its market share as churn rises. Soldatenkov expects the Russian mobile market to become more fluid as it becomes more saturated and customers migrate more often between networks.
