12 April 2004 12:26 Russian economic ministry to reflect overall structure of government Moscow, 12 April: The division of functions between officials in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade will
reflect the structure of the government.
An official in the ministry told ITAR-TASS that "Deputy Minister Andrey Sharonov will coordinate the key reforms
- energy, health care and housing and utilities management". At the same time, "the second economic
development and trade deputy minister, Vitaliy Savelyev, at a lower level, will reflect the role of Deputy Prime
Minister Aleksandr Zhukov and will be the main manager in the department".
The ministry official added that "some former deputy ministers will be demoted and become department
heads". According to ITAR-TASS's information, this statement refers to Mikhail Dmitriyev, who was first deputy
to [Economic Development and Trade Minister] German Gref. The youngest deputy minister in the government, 32-year-old
Arkadiy Dvorkovich, will more than likely revert to being Gref's adviser, a post he occupied until 2002.
By order of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, Andrey Sharonov retains his post as deputy minister, and is
joined as deputy minister by Vitaliy Savelyev, who previously worked as an aide to the director of [telecom holding]
Svyazinvest.
The ministry is allowed to have 16 departments. According to the government structure, the staff of the ministry may
not exceed 2,000.
