09 April 2004 13:48 Drugs trade control service seizes 400 kg of marijuana in Russian Far East Vladivostok, 9 April: Employees of Amur and Chita regional directorates of the Federal Service for Controlling the
Trade in Drugs and Psychotropic Substances have done away with a drug trafficking channel from the Amur area to Chita
Region.
As a result of an inter-regional operation in Chita three drug traffickers were detained. They had been delivering
drugs from Amur Region to Chita Region, the press centre of the Amur Region directorate of the Federal Service for Drugs
Trade Control said.
Further investigation in the village of Sergeyevka in Amur Region allowed for 400 kg of marijuana to be seized.
Twenty-one bags containing marijuana were stashed in the yard. The 33-year-old owner of the house has two previous
convictions for drug-related crimes.
[In a separate report, at 0326 gmt on 9 Apr 04, ITAR-TASS news agency, Moscow, in Russian, said that the Altay
Territory directorate of the Federal Service for Drugs Trade Control had detained a drug trafficker from Kemerovo Region
and seized 0.5 kg of heroin worth R1.5m (about 50,000 dollars) from him. On the whole, since the service started
functioning in the area, more than 60 kg of drugs have been seized and 90 people have been arrested over illegal drugs
trade.]
