Yukos sells major oil field in Eastern Siberia
Surgut (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area), 7 April: Surgut oil producers are launching a large-scale operation in Yakutia. An agreement on the settlement of a set of issues related to the development of the Talakan [oil and gas condensate] field has been reached with Yukos and the republic's leadership, Surgutneftegaz press service said today. Under the agreement, [Yukos affiliate] Sakhaneftegaz will sell the Talakan field's assets, including the Lenaneftegaz company, to Surgutneftegaz. "The agreement allows Surgutneftegaz to launch a large-scale operation in Yakutia. This is in the interests of the republic, as well as in the interests of our company," Surgutneftegaz head Vladimir Bogdanov told journalists. "We have come to Eastern Siberia to stay," he said. [RBC web site on 5 April quoted Lev Snykov, a NIKoil analyst, as saying that "this is completely neutral news for Yukos, as the value of the property that is being sold amounts to tens of millions of dollars".]
