06 April 2004 12:02 Axel Springer Verlag aims for foreign expansion through licences and new activities (Springer strebt mit Lizenzausgaben
ins Ausland) Axel Springer Verlag, the German publisher, is planning aiming to be present on as many foreign markets as possible,
and, in countries where it is not represented by a subsidiary, it regards the issuing of licences for its publications
as an alternative means of gaining market share. By the end of 2006, according to management, the company will aim to
issue more than 60 licences for publications. It is also planning new activities in Russia and China.
At the end of last year, foreign business contributed only around 14 per cent of turnover, representing a fairly
stable proportion. It is aiming, eventually, for at least 30 per cent of turnover to be generated abroad.
