Administrative reforms gather pace
If the new structure of federal government bodies is effective, it could be transferred to the regional level, Dmitry Kozak, chief of the Government Staff, told reporters on Thursday.

He said the goal of administrative reforms was a more effective and responsible government. Reforms are aimed at eliminating «multi-levelness» in decision making. According to Mr. Kozak, each minister will now have only two deputies, the government staff will be reduced, and the role of government departments will increase.

Mr. Kozak said he would oversee all aspects of administrative reforms. The Administrative Reform Commission and the inter-departmental commission on the structure of federal government structure will be united.

According to him, the Government Staff will undergo the same changes as other federal ministries over the next two or three weeks. Mr. Kozak noted that the Government Staff would be «more compact, effective, dynamic and responsible».

The number of government commissions will be reduced to ten in the course of the reforms. Mr. Kozak said the government would discuss the abolition of 220 government commissions on April 8.
