Serbia-Montenegro president thanks Russia for helping Kosovo Serbs Belgrade, 23 March: President of Serbia-Montenegro Svetozar Marovic has expressed his gratitude to Russia for
offering humanitarian aid to the Kosovo Serbs affected by the ethnic cleansing of Serbs last week by [Kosovo] Albanians.
Two Il-76 cargo aircraft carrying aid for them are to land at Belgrade airport on Wednesday [24 March] morning, with the
next planes arriving on Friday.
During a meeting with Russian Emergencies Minister Sergey Shoygu, who is in Serbia-Montenegro on a working visit,
Marovic said he hoped the humanitarian aid will enable the Serbs to stay in Kosovo and return to their homes as soon as
possible. Sergey Shoygu, for his part, noted that humanitarian aid will be given to Kosovo Serbs not only by the Russian
state but also by businessmen. He said representatives of a number of major Russian companies accompanying the minister
to Serbia-Montenegro have pledged to allocate 1m dollars each for humanitarian purposes. They also advocated developing
bilateral ties in energy, tourism, transport and communications.
