19 March 2004 23:43 Putin says loans should be more accessible MOSCOW. March 19 (Interfax) - Russia's financial and bank credit sector must continue to be modernized and loans
should be more accessible, President Vladimir Putin said.
"We must increase the accessibility of credit resources and the quality of financial services for the economy
and for the people in the form of mortgages and consumer loans," the president said at a meeting with the finance
and economy ministries.
"A suitable legislation base is required that does not burden financial market participants," he said.
"It is also necessary to ensure strong protection of depositors rights, which is particularly important for the
development of small business. A basic law on insuring deposits has already been adopted and now a real working system
for such insurance must be created."
Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin and Economic Development and Trade Minister German
Gref attended the meeting. [RU ASIA EUROPE EEU EMRG BNK FIN DBT ECI POL] me <>
