18 March 2004 17:25 Billionaire pours pounds 30m into Russian team THEoil company associated with the Russian billionaire criticised for buying Chelsea football club yesterday signed a
pounds 30 million sponsorship deal with the current Russian champion team CSKA.
Under the deal with Sibneft, whose former owner Roman Abramovich is fighting to get his
controlling stake in the company back after an abortive merger with embattled rival Yukos, CSKA will receive pounds
10 million a season for three years.
Some Russian officials criticised Abramovich for purchasing Chelsea last summer, saying he should have used the money
to help Russian sports.
