Putin chairs conference on problem of providing housing for armed forces
Moscow, 18 March: Russian President Vladimir Putin held a conference today on issues connected with providing housing for servicemen. Opening the conference, the president said: "I issued instructions some time ago [for people] to think about a modern and effective way of resolving one of the main social problems in the armed forces, that of providing housing for servicemen." He suggested that the [conference] participants should sum up "the interim result of that work" and take a look at the proposals that have been drawn up by the Defence Ministry. Igor Shuvalov, the deputy head of the Russian president's administration; German Gref, economic development and trade minister; Defence Minister Sergey Ivanov; Aleksey Kudrin, finance minister; Col-Gen Anatoliy Grebenyuk, deputy defence minister; Lyubov Kudelina, deputy defence minister, and Vladislav Putilin, deputy economic development and trade minister, took part in the conference.
