Fuel and energy accounted for 59.9% of exports to the non-CIS,
compared with 67.9% in January last year. Metals accounted for 18%

Trade with non-CIS countries grew 8.1% to $11.5 billion, of which exports 6.1% to $8.7 billion and imports 14.8% to
$2.8 billion. This produced a surplus of $5.9 billion, which was $100 million higher than a year previously.

4.2%.
Crude oil exports grew 12.4% year-on-year to 15.1 million tonnes in January. Exports in tonnage grew 60.5% for
ferroalloys, 63.6% for primary aluminum, 20.8% for nitrous fertilizers and 53.5% for ammonium anhydride and, in value,
60.6% for machinery and equipment.
Machinery and equipment accounted for 45.4% of Russian imports from the non-CIS, compared with 38.5% in January last
year; food and ingredients 18.7% compared with 24.9%, and chemicals 17.3% compared with 17.4%.
Russia imported 30.3% more frozen fish from the non-CIS, 270% more bituminous coal and 120% more cars, but 71.5% less
frozen meat, 78.1% less poultry, 49.4% less butter and 26.9% less raw sugar.
Trade with the CIS grew 25% year-on-year to $2.6 billion in January, of which exports 31.3% to $1.7 billion and
imports 15% to $900 million, to produce a surplus of $800 million, or $300 million higher than in January 2003.
Fuel and energy accounted for 56.2% of Russian exports to the CIS. In tonnage, crude oil exports grew 36.5%, oil
product exports doubled, natural gas exports were up 7.8% and ferrous metal exports grew 31.2%.
Wheat imports from the CIS soared 330% in tonnage, and medicine imports grew 94.8%. But imports fell 70.9% for frozen
meat, 18.3% for citrus fruit and 22% for sunflower oil.
