12 March 2004 03:40 Inflation slows in March - ministry MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Consumer price inflation continued to slow in March, Deputy Economic Development and
Trade Minister Arkady Dvorkovich told reporters.
"A preliminary assessment of the first few days of March shows that inflation continued to slow and that the
situation in the first week of March in terms of price growth was comparable to growth in the summer months,"
Dvorkovich said.
Inflation in January-February 2004 was 2.8%, compared with 4.1% in the same period of last year, Dvorkovich said.
"Thus, inflation in the two months was down 1.3% year-on-year, and this was the result of faster economic growth
and, as a consequence, stronger demand for the national currency," he said.
Figures for the first few months of the year show that "the government possesses enough instruments to keep
inflation for 2004 as a whole within 10%," Dvorkovich said. [RU ASIA EUROPE EEU EMRG ECI MCE] pr <>
