Eurasian Economic Community PMs meet in Kazakhstan
The heads of government of the Eurasian Economic Community are meeting in Almaty on Friday, according to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry’s Information Department. The Russian delegation is led by acting Prime Minister Viktor Khristenko.

The officials will report on the economic situation in the Community and their proposals on the problem of economic cooperation. In particular, they will discuss practical measures to boost cooperation in the energy sphere, including the use of Tajikistan’s and Kyrgyzstan’s hydro energy resources.

The following documents will be discussed at the meeting: the Protocol on the Transportation of Electricity within the Eurasian Economic Community and the Agreement on the Status of Legal Groundwork of the Community. The establishment of the common customs tariff is also one of the priorities.

Such meetings are held twice a year. The previous meeting of the Intergovernmental Council took place on October 28, 2003, in Moscow. Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan signed an agreement on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Community on October 10, 2000. Moldova and Ukraine have the status of observers. According to the agreement, the aim of the Communion is to promote the creation of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space, as well as the achievement of other goals set in the agreements on the Customs Union (1995), the Agreement on Promoting Economic and Humanitarian Integration (1996), and the Agreement on the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space (1999).
