21 February 2004 09:38 Illegal incision leads to oil spill in Russia`s southern republic Stavropol, 21 February: A hundred and fifty tonnes of oil have leaked out of the Malgobek-Tikhoretsk oil pipeline
owing to an illegal incision in the pipeline 2 km from the village of Baltiyskiy Rabochiy in Stavropol Territory's
Kurskiy District.
The incident occurred in the small hours of Wednesday [18 February], the Stavropol Territory main civil defence and
emergencies directorate told RIA today.
Steps aimed at shutting down the damaged section of the pipeline were taken as soon as information about the incident
had been received.
Emergencies Ministry services and an emergency repair team of the Chernomorsk-Transneft directorate took part in
alleviating the consequences of the incident.
A clean-up of the polluted area was carried out after the leak had been stopped.
The oil pipeline is functioning normally now and the search for the criminals is under way.
