Russia - Rostelekom 9-mont net profit falls, sales rise
Rostelekom (Russia), long-distance operator, made a net profit down 60% to USDlr36 mil on a revenue up 13.1% to USDlr692 mil in January 2003-September 2003 vs the year-earlier period, excluding the effect of introducing a new settlement system. The company said its net profit and margins were affected by charges for disposing outdated equipment and depreciation. Rostelekom's market share in Moscow, Russia, remained stable through September 2003 vs falling until early 2003. The company's operating profit was USDlr64 mil, for a 9% margin, in the first nine months of 2003 vs USDlr96 mil and 16% previously. Domestic long-distance traffic was up 17.3% over the same period, while incoming international traffic was up 28.7% and outgoing international traffic rose by 5.6%.
