Rescuers have found several body parts in the rubble of the Transvaal water park in Moscow that collapsed last Saturday.
According to Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov, an operation to clear the rubble continued throughout the night, and it will be completed by Wednesday evening, the Rossiya TV channel reports. According to the latest information, the body of a 13-year old boy was pulled from the rubble.
Twenty six people died after the huge roof of the water complex collapsed. Over 100 people were treated for injuries. The roof caved in at 19:15 Moscow time on February 14. According to the Emergencies Ministry, the affected area is 5,000 square meters.
Russian Emergencies Minister Sergey Shoigu said at least 12 people were unaccounted for after the incident. According to him, there could have been 159 people in the area at the time of the collapse.
In Mr. Shoigu’s opinion, the tragedy was caused by mistakes in the construction and maintenance of the complex. “I hope experts will establish the cause of this tragedy, so that such things will not happen in the future,” he stressed.
For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Yakovlev said it was necessary to divide responsibility between the companies involved in the construction of the building.
