Party of Russian Regions changes name to "Rodina"
MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - The Party of Russian Regions' congress on Sunday renamed the party to "Rodina" with only one abstention. "Rodina" was the name of an election coalition which got through to the State Duma in the December parliamentary elections, and of the parliamentary faction, formed by this coalition. Sergei Glazyev was relieved from his duties of the party's co- chairman. Glazyev himself voted for his dismissal. One delegate was against this decision. Glazyev told journalists that he had decided to quit the Party of Russian Regions on his own. "It's a farce that is being staged in the current presidential campaign," he said. He said some of his party colleagues are just fulfilling the instruction to neutralize him as an "objectionable" presidential candidate. He said the decision to change the party's name "came as a surprise" to him. He noted, however, that he will not give up the idea of uniting Russia's patriotic forces.
