04 February 2004 03:35 Russia posts inflation of 1.8% in Jan MOSCOW. Feb 4 (Interfax) - Russia's consumer market inflation was 1.8% in January 2004, the State Statistics
Committee reported Wednesday.
The average daily rise in consumer prices was 0.056%, compared with 0.077% in January 2003.
The basic consumer prices index, which excludes short-term, irregular price changes influenced by administrative or
seasonal factors, was 100.9% in January 2004.
Prices grew 1.6% for food and drink, compared with 1.5% in December 2003. Food and drink prices minus fruit and
vegetables rose 1.3%, against 1.2%. Nonfood prices rose 0.5%, compared with 0.6%, and service charges - 4.1%, against
0.9%.
In January 2004, inflation exceeded 2.5% in 14 regions. It was highest in Ivanovo at 4.0%.
In the City of Moscow, inflation was 2.4%, and in St. Petersburg, inflation was 1.9%.
