Boxer Jane Hooks Up With Sponsors
Two Bristol businesswomen are to sponsor Jane Couch's world championship fight next month. The 32-year-old Bristol-based world champion is preparing to defend her WBS light welterweight title against Russian champion and number one challenger Borislaca Guronova in Bristol on December 8. The 10-round contest will be the first world title fight to be held in Bristol. But, it's a huge financial gamble for Jane, who lives and trains at Tex Woodward's Gym in Compton Greenfield, near Almondsbury. She was forced to promote her own show when a Chris Sanigar show at Whitchurch Sports Centre was cancelled. Now, Nicky and Carol Heal, who run the What's On Bristol magazine and website, have stepped into the ring with sponsorship to support Jane. Jane said: "It's great to have the backing of fellow Bristolians. "This event will put Bristol at the forefront of boxing worldwide." The world title fight is being held at Bristol's Thistle Hotel. Tickets cost GBP45 per head and can be booked by calling 01454 632448 or 0774 884 1755. The main event will be preceded by a champagne reception and Christmas dinner, after which a live band will entertain the audience. Jane said: "I want it to be like a real Christmas party where office staff can go and let their hair down."
