Fed: Wine exports rebound in December: ABS
CANBERRA, Feb 5 AAP - Australian wine exports rebounded 15 per cent in December to $181 million, new figures released today show. The Australian Bureau of Statistics said the quantity of wine exported lifted 15 per cent as did the value of the exports, following a poor November when exports dropped $60 million. For the first six months of the financial year total exports have climbed to $1.2 billion, and are on track to break the record $2.4 billion sold overseas in 2002-03. Sales jumped 15.4 per cent to Europe and Russia and 39 per cent to North America, although sales to South-East Asia and Oceania dropped slightly. Domestically, wine sales slipped 0.8 per cent to 33.8 million litres, although they were still up 9.5 per cent on December 2002. White table wine sales dropped 0.9 per cent to 16.6 million litres, while red and rose table wine sales lifted 0.1 per cent to 12 million litres. AAP sw/cbs/jlw
