American oil company seeks joint venture with Russian state-owned major
Moscow, 5 February: Marathon Oil Corporation, a US energy company, has made a proposal to set up a joint venture with Rosneft on an equal footing, a source close to the American company has told Prime-TASS. Marathon Oil proposed to transfer to the joint venture its assets in the Severnaya Neft [Northern Oil] company and Khanty-Mansiysk Oil Corporation [KMOC], controlled by it. Moreover, the US company is ready to allocate its refining and marketing infrastructure in the USA to the joint venture. [Editorial note: Back in November 2002, Marathon Oil and Rosneft signed a letter of intent to set up a joint venture to transport and market Urals crude in the North American market.]
