03 February 2004 18:13 Iran: Foreign minister discusses civil aviation, aircraft with Ukraine Moscow, 3 February: Ukrainian prime minister said in Kiev Tuesday [3 February] that Iran and Ukraine have forged
cordial economic and trade ties. In a meeting with the visiting Iran Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, Viktor Yanukovich,
expressed his country's readiness to hold the fourth joint economic commission in Kiev in May.
Kharrazi expressed gratitude on Ukraine's generous relief assistance to Bam earthquake victims. He further said
grounds are prepared for closer economic and trade relations between the two nations.
Kharrazi discussed transfer of civil aviation technology and provision for plane engines parts from Ukraine to Iran.
He extended an invitation to Yanukovich to visit Iran and welcomed an agreement on preferential tariffs with the aim of
increasing bilateral trade volume.
Yanukovich said such an agreement is beneficial for higher trade saying work on building an Iranian trade centre in
Kiev as well as higher investments by Ukraine in Iran's oil and gas sector is under review.
The two officials also discussed ways of transferring Iranian gas to Europe via Ukraine and on cooperation in rail
and transit of goods between the two countries. Earlier on Tuesday Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi stressed the
importance which Tehran attaches to the plan for transfer of the country's gas to Europe via Ukraine.
The minister made the remarks in the meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Konstantin Hryschchenko in Kiev shortly
after arriving for a two-day visit. "Besides reiterating the significance of the plan for the transfer of the
Iranian gas to European countries via Ukraine, Kharrazi described it as an important step in the two countries'
