SUAL SIGNS DEAL WITH USAID
MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax) - Siberian-Urals Aluminum Company (SUAL) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), envisaging partnership in aiding the social and economic development of the regions where SUAL operates. This is the first such partnership between USAID in Russia and a Russian company, said a joint press release. "The SUAL group will make its contribution to the development of Russian regions by helping to create efficient local government The partnership will aim to support local government bodies, improve the level of medical services, develop infrastructure, and promote the activities of small business and municipal organizations. organization models and city infrastructure management systems, and interaction with USAID will open access to the rich international experience accumulated by the agency," SUAL-Holding Board Chairman Viktor Vekselberg said. Joint SUAL and USAID projects will be funded on a 50-50 basis, the memorandum says. The SUAL group consists of 10 of the biggest aluminum companies in the world. It produces over 90% of Russia's bauxite, 60% of the alumina and 25% of the primary aluminum. SUAL-Holding manages the companies.
