Russian minister promises Putin to clear up all wage arrears by 1 February
The existing wage arrears [in Russia] will be cleared up by 1 February, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aleksey Kudrin said today at a regular Monday meeting of President Vladimir Putin with key cabinet members. The president stressed that the usual January fall in tax collection should not affect salary payments. A wide range of economic, social and cultural issues has been discussed at the meeting. In particular, the president asked the government to draw up a set of proposals on the development of tourism in Russia, listened to a report on the progress of work on the bill on mortgage loans, and instructed the cabinet to look into the possibility of granting loans to Belarus to solve the gas problem.
