Saint-Gobain goes to Russia (Saint-Gobain Isover inaugure sa premiere usine en Russie) Saint-Gobain, the French materials and packaging group, launched its first factory in Russia on Friday. The 35m-euro
plant, which will produce glass wool, is located in Egorevsk, around 100km from Moscow. It has a yearly production
capacity of 1.5 million cubic metres. The factory was bought by the group's insulation materials division,
Saint-Gobain Isover, in October 2002 and began operating a year later, with a workforce of 118.
SGI has a 40-per-cent share of the Russian market for glass-wool-based insulation materials. The director of
Saint-Gobain's Russian operations, Daniel Meroc, explains that the group has several projects in Russia, some of
which could be launched this year.
