Ingush president to discuss Chechen refugees at UN
MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - Ingush President Murat Zyazikov will address return of Chechen refugees from Ingushetia during his visit to the UN headquarters in Geneva. Zyazikov plans to meet representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN Development Program, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Red Cross. "The practice of holding such meetings exists," Zyazikov told the Ekho Moskvy radio station. "Over 500,000 refugees passed through Ingush territory. Out of the 50,000 who remained, 4,500 live in tents and the rest stay on rented premises," he said. The housing that is being constructed "with the help of international humanitarian missions should be of high quality and targeted assistance is needed," he said.
