COFFEE EXPORTS BUCK LAST YEAR`S DOWNTURN (India`s coffee exports grew by about 3.3 percent in volume terms in 2003)
India's coffee exports grew by about 3.3 percent in volume terms in 2003, after two years of negative growth. Coffee exports in 2003 have provisionally been estimated at 2,20,045.7 tonnes (it had fallen by 4.81 percent to 2,13,008.1 tonnes in 2002). Export value has dropped marginally to $243.81 million ($244.97 million). This may mainly be on account of a fall in the export of higher priced Arabicas. Exports to Italy, India's largest market for coffee exports, grew by 11.65 percent to 49,857 tonnes. Exports to Belgium grew by about 23 percent to 18,369 tonnes and to Spain, by 29.44 percent to 13,695 tonnes. However, exports to Russia fell to 33,195 tonnes and to Germany, to 22,260 tonnes.
