EU hopes Russia will withdraw its bases from Georgia TBILISI. Jan 15 (Interfax) - The European Union hopes the OSCE agreement on withdrawing Russian bases from Georgia
will be carried out, EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana said at a press
conference in Tbilisi on Thursday.
The European Union is not considering giving financial aid to Russia to assist in the withdrawal of its bases from
Georgia, but it will give maximum assistance to Georgia in this respect, he said.
He replied that the EU could take part in a peacekeeping operation in Abkhazia only with a UN mandate.
The EU will not hold a peacekeeping operation in any region without authorization from the UN security, but the EU
can carry out the mission if the authorization is given, Solana said. [GG EUROPE EEU EMRG RU EU AER POL] te tj
