A water leak has been reported in the water system in the city of Vladivostok in the Far East of Russia.
According to the city’s administration, a leak of potable water has occurred at the Bogatinsk water reservoir, one of the three reservoirs within the city’s water system, Rossiya (Russia) television reported.
The incident was discovered by local cottagers. Their cottages, surrounding land plots and local roads were flooded by water leaking from the Bogatinsk water reservoir. According to local residents, the leak has been observed for a long time already.
Vladivostok municipal authorities have ordered inspections to verify this information. The municipal administration believes the leak is the fault of a local enterprise that operates this water facility.
Currently, Vladivostok is suffering from its worst water shortage in decades with limited cold water provided to residents. Local officials explain that the volume of water in two water facilities accounts for only 23 percent of necessary volumes. The reported water leak can result in catastrophic consequences for Vladivostok.
