The Revival political party, led by Aslan Abashidze, the leader of the Adzhar Autonomous Republic, will not participate in the presidential elections in Georgia. Abashidze announced this decision at a news conference in Batumi today. The news conference was held after talks between Abashidze and Georgian State Minister Zurab Zhvania, who is on a visit to Batumi.
At the same time Abashidze has confirmed that the elections would be held in the territory of Adzharia. "We are doing this in the interests of whole Georgia, as Adzharia is its only real autonomy," he pointed out.
Abashidze gave consent to holding the elections in the territory of the autonomous republic on December 28. He still believes that numerous violations of the Constitution took place during the events on November 22 and 23, which, in Abashidze's view, have led to illegitimate changes in the Georgian government. The early presidential elections in Georgia are scheduled for January 4.
