Acting President of Georgia Nino Burdzhanadze considers her Thursday’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin a breakthrough in bilateral relations. She said this at a press conference in Moscow after negotiations with the Russian leader.
Ms. Burdzhanadze pointed out that the conversation had been frank and confident. “We did not avoid rough edges of Russian-Georgian relations,” she emphasized. The acting Georgian president reported that they also touched upon the Abkhazia and South Ossetia issues and trade and economic relations.
Earlier, Mr. Putin stated at a meeting with Ms. Burdzhanadze that Russia cared about campaigning in Georgia. At the same time, the Russian leader appreciated the decision of Georgia’s acting president to come to Russia.
Ms. Burdzhanadze remarked that at a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov they had discussed Russian military bases in Georgia. They decided that the special commission for determining the date of Russian bases’ withdrawal from Georgia should continue its activities.
