On Monday chairman of the board of the Gazprom joint stock company Aleksei Miller and president of the Russian Olympic committee Leonid Tyagachev signed cooperation agreements between Gazprom and the Russian Olympic committee. According to the information provided to RIA Novosti in the Gazprom press service, the signed documents stipulated that Gazprom would provide sponsorship and charity support to the Olympic committee for the total amount of USD 5 million. The majority of the funds will be directed towards preparation of the Russian team for the 28th Olympic games of 2004 to be held in Athens. The press service reported that the major objective of the agreements was to develop Olympic movement and mass sport in Russia, propaganda of healthy way of life and support of youth sport organizations.
