23 December 2003 19:40 Russian government set to provide more aid to aviation industry Kazan, 23 December: The state provides comprehensive assistance to the aviation industry, Russian Deputy Prime
Minister Boris Aleshin, who is in Tatarstan, told ITAR-TASS today.
He said that the 2004 budget "guarantees support for exports of products of the processing industry, for which
500m dollars has already been allocated". "This is the first step taken by the government and we will increase
the amount of funds in the future," he said.
Aleshin believes that there is a need for better management of the aviation industry, for improving production
capacity and state-owned recourses. A merger of aircraft plants into one complex would allow us to reduce expenses.
At the present time, we should provide incentives and stimulate competition between engine producers to achieve
better results. This principle should also be observed in the supply of components to aircraft plants, he said.
