22 December 2003 21:30 Russia`s December unemployment figure goes up by 4.2 per cent on month Moscow, 22 December: The total number of unemployed people in Russia stood at 6.17 million people as of 1 December,
up 4.2 per cent on the month and 0.3 per cent on the year, according to data provided by the State Statistics Committee
and obtained by Prime-TASS on Monday [22 December].
The figures were calculated according to the methodology used by the International Labour Organization.
The number of officially-registered jobless people rose 3.6 per cent on the month and 10 per cent on the year in
November to 1,567,000.
The total number of unemployed people accounted for 8.6 per cent of Russia's total labour force in November.
Russia's labour force was estimated at 71.4 million as of the end of November, which is about 49 per cent of the
country's total population, the committee said.
