18 December 2003 18:44 Russian foreign minister meets businessmen in Argentina Buenos Aires, 18 December: Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov believes that Russia's integration into the
world community "would be helped by recognition of the market status of its economy and completion of talks on
admission into the WTO on non-discriminatory terms". Ivanov expressed the opinion at today's sitting of the
council of businessmen of Russia and Argentina.
"We are also actively seeking abolition of antidumping sanctions which some countries have introduced with
regard to Russian export products," he said.
He said that Russian and Argentinean business circles were looking for mutually beneficial projects. "This is
important because the potential of Russian-Argentinean relations is not being used to the full," he said. "The
general atmosphere of relations is good for expanding mutually beneficial business cooperation," he said.
The trade turnover between Russia and Argentina at the beginning of the 1980s reached 3bn dollars, Ivanov said.
"We are now able to restore and exceed this level, expand it into new areas," he said.
He in particular spoke of the space sector, the oil and gas industry, the energy sector, the automotive industry,
agriculture and fisheries. The outlook for inter-regional cooperation is very promising, Ivanov said.
He said he was satisfied that "Argentina's business circles are showing an increased interest in the
Russian market". [Passage omitted]
