12 December 2003 08:26 Nitrogen Producer Seeks Cheap Gas, PGNiG Ready To Help The national gas holding PGNiG plans to act as a middleman between the nitrogen producer ZA Pulawy (ZAP) and a
potential gas supplier from Ukraine or Romania. "If ZAP finds a supplier we can set up a joint venture with ZAP,
and we can also set up a joint venture with such a supplier who would not only provide gas to ZAP but sell ZAP products
in other countries, including the Russian Federation," explained Marek Kossowski, president of PGNiG, who added
that in his view the best such partner would be the Ukrainian gas administrator NAK. But since ZAP must cut costs it
seeks inexpensive gas providers, such as Gazprom from Russia. Gazprom, however, has to think twice before offering gas
below $100 per 1,000 cubic metres. "If Gazprom offers gas in Poland for better prices than PGNiG, we will treat it
as a cause for renegotiation of the long-time contract we signed with Gazprom," warned Kossowski.
