Russia is interested in the development of cooperation with Japan, including in the energy sphere, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov told reporters on Monday during his visit to Japan.
In particular, he stressed that projects on the Sakhalin island were being implemented effectively. The Sakhalin-2 project takes $250m in investments every month. According to Mr. Kasyanov, Russia is interested in the construction of new industrial facilities. In particular, the building of a natural gas processing plant in the Irkutsk region is being discussed. Japan has technical experience in the implementation of such projects.
The Russian Prime Minister also stressed the need to develop measures against the smuggling of sea products. A joint Russian-Japanese statement on measures against poaching in the north-western part of the Pacific Ocean and the smuggling of sea products to Japanese ports is expected to be signed during Mr. Kasyanov's visit.
In the opinion of the Russian Prime Minister, the oil pipeline between Angarsk and Nakhodka is no alternative to the "local" oil pipeline from Angarsk to Daqing (China). He said that these pipelines were oriented towards different resources. So, the necessary resources for filling the Angarsk-Daqing pipeline are available, but the Angarsk - Nakhodka pipeline is designed for new oilfields. The construction of this pipeline will be an incentive for the development of the entire Far East, Mr. Kasyanov believes.
