Russian workers strike over wage arrears, threaten to bankrupt plant
In Stavropol, 300 workers of the Krasnyy Metallist works have gone on strike. They are demanding that they should be paid their wages for the last six months. The board of directors spent only half an hour talking to the people [workers]. It said it was ready to consider written claims. The management also refused to meet journalists. The workers believe that if the director of the works could find enough money to repair the roof, funds can be found to pay off their wage arrears. >From January the workers intend to go to work once a week. Moreover, if their demands are not met, they are threatening to consult lawyers with a view to launching bankruptcy procedures at their enterprise.
