21 November 2002 03:56 ITRI TO SPONSOR SEMINAR INTRODUCING NANOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH IN JAPAN Taipei, Nov. 21 (CNA) The Industrial Technology Research Institute will sponsor a seminar in Hsinchu on Nov. 27 to
introduce the recent trends of nanotechnology research in Japan, in particular nano-materials and device manufacturing,
an ITRI spokesman said Thursday.
The spokesman said that as more than 30 countries around the world have made research and development in
nanotechnology core projects in their industrial development, the government has decided to invest over NT$30 billion in
nano and system chips R&D programs in the next few years.
He said that nanotechnology is the future of manufacturing and processing technologies and that the world market for
nanotechnology in the next five to 10 years is expected to reach US$1 trillion a year.
To promote international exchanges, local academic and research institutions have scheduled a series of seminars this
year to allow local researchers the opportunity to meet with their counterparts from the United States, Germany, Russia
and Japan, according to the spokesman. (By Lillian Lin)
