Rane Brake Linings (RBL), a part of the Rs687-crore Rane Group, has been awarded the Deming Prize from Japanese Union of Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) for excellent practice of total quality management (TQM). RBL now expects its overseas customers to take it more seriously and has a business plan to scale up exports from five percent of the Rs122 crore turnover in 2002-2003 to 15 percent of turnover by 2007. RBL has $2 lakh worth of orders for rail blocks from Sri Lanka Railways. A number of inquiries have come from other countries and the company hopes to play a major role in the conversion of cast iron into composite rail blocks in countries like Russia and China. It is also developing new products for Australia and USA, where Railways have seen the conversion.
